Sophie, Countess of Wessex: Royal body language shows ‘unfussy’ parenting with Lady Louise

Speaking to, body language expert Judi James commented on their parenting style.

She stated the privacy of their children is important to the Wessexes.

Prince Edward recently discussed his children’s education during lockdown in an interview.

Commenting on this, Judi said: “This desire to protect his children’s privacy might sound natural but given Sophie and his current elevation through the ranks of the Firm and their much higher profile as a result it could be a personal challenge for Edward to ensure that any desire for privacy is respected.”

The royal couple will mostly keep their children out of the public eye.

When they have been seen in public, however, Sophie could take a step back to allow her children to grow more confident.

Judi continued: “Sophie’s confidence signals show her as being the more socially active one in the team dynamic.

“Both children show some signs of shyness but Sophie’s unfussy technique seems to allow them to push themselves at their own pace.

“[In one picture] while her husband and her two children look engrossed in the giraffe.

“Sophie’s attention is fully absorbed by her son and she appears to be enjoying watching and encouraging him to have fun.

“She steps back to use the eye-gaze, meaning she’s sharing without being over-protective and one of her hands is raised to suggest active eye and ear listening from this clearly doting mum.

“Sophie’s encouraging and proud smile is teamed with the kind of spatial gap you’d get between friends, allowing Sophie’s daughter to be seen and to feel like a confident adult in public.”
