The Government is worried that even countries on the “green list” may still harbour Covid variants, which they are determined to prevent from entering the UK.
This means that everyone, including those who have been vaccinated against the deadly virus, will have to take the test.
The tests must be administered either on or before the second say of arrival in the UK.
Travellers returning from “green list” countries, however, will not be required to quarantine.
The Government’s plans have been sharply criticised by both politicians and industry insiders.
The Government attempted to head off the criticism by promising to review the situation on June 28.
It is planning to replace the current ban on travel with a traffic light system from may 17.
Countries will be ranked according to their vaccination rates, number of infections, as well as the prevalence of Covid variants and their ability to conduct genome sequencing.
