Extinction Rebellion South East UK tweeted during the demonstration: “World goverments have increased subsidies to #FossilFuel industries and it’s business as usual for companies like @BP_UK & @ExxonMobil_UK.
“#G7 leaders have the power to change this. #StopFundingClimateChaos.”
The group added: “#ExtinctionRebellion call on @GOVUK to scrap the strategy of #MaximumEconomicRecovery for oil and gas, scrap issuing new exploration & production licences and #ActNow at #G7 to phase out #FossilFuels.
“Right now we’re #DrowningInPromises.
“#Greenwash Alarm!! New @UKGOV 20 year oil & gas licenses with MER – #MaximumEconomicRecovery – will lock the UK into future carbon emissions.
“There must be no more #FossilFuel development if we’re to keep to the #ParisAgreement @BorisJohnson #ActNow #G7”
The XR South East South East branch added: “The rich #G7 nations are polluting the Earth, squandering the world’s carbon budget while leaving the poorest to suffer #DrowningInPromises.
“The @G7 must take responsibility, they have the power to change this, they must #ActNow
“No more #Greenwash! #GlobalJustice now!”
The G7 is made up of Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.
The 47th G7 summit is scheduled for 11–13 June 2021 in the United Kingdom.
