Meghan Markle and Prince Harry criticised over podcast choice: ‘Will they follow through?’ | Royal | News

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex made their first public appearance since the palace announced they would not return as working members of the Royal Family. In a 20-second clip shot in their home in Montecito, the couple promoted their new Archewell Audio podcast on Stream On, celebrating the Spotify platform.

Meghan started off the sentence by saying: “We’re using podcasting to drive powerful conversations” before her husband interjected “that inspire, challenge and educate”.

Harry added: “The biggest part of this is to create this community where you can share, that will encourage everybody else to then share their own vulnerabilities within that safe space.”

Meghan continued: “We created Archewell Audio to make sure that we can elevate voices that maybe aren’t being heard… and hear people’s stories.”

Harry then added: “The biggest part of this is trying to create this community of where you can share (and) encourage everybody else to then share their own vulnerabilities within that safe space.”

A PR expert who follows the royals took issue with the couple’s comments about their aim to “elevate” the voices of people who may not have another way in which to be heard.

The social media user with the Twitter handle @UKRoyalTea wrote: “It’s strange that while they describe their podcast as ‘elevating voices that aren’t being heard’ they launched it with a special episode that was primarily VERY famous voices.

“Will they actually follow through or will it be like their pledge to work with grassroots media?”

The expert was referring to Meghan and Harry’s first episode of their podcast which featured household names.

She tweeted: “The problem with them is that they don’t engage with real people and their problems.

“They live in their bubble and want superstars because this way they can promote themselves.”

A second person said they found the Sussexes’ choice of words “odd.”

They said: “It was odd, they’ve done one podcast with celebrities.

“How is that elevating voices?”

Harry, 36, is expected to return to the UK this summer for a dramatic reunion with his family after more than a year of absence.

The duke is set to touch down for Prince Philip’s 100th birthday and Trooping the Colour in June.

Meghan, 39, who is pregnant with her second child, will not join her husband.

The royal baby is believed to be due around the end of spring.
