The Duke and the Duchess of Sussex had to abide by the Firm’s rules when they welcomed their firstborn, Archie Harrison. However, things may be different now that they have permanently relinquished their royal duties as they expect their second child.

Regarding baby gifts, the Royal Family’s protocol reads: “The fundamental principle governing the acceptance of gifts by Members of The Royal Family is that no gifts, including hospitality or services, should be accepted which would, or might appear to, place the Member of The Royal Family under any obligation to the donor.

“In this regard, before accepting any gift, careful consideration should always be given, wherever practicable, to the donor, the reason for and occasion of the gift and the nature of the gift itself. Equally, before declining the offer of a gift, careful consideration should be given to any offence that might be caused by such an action.”

But now that the couple work independently they can chose whether they accept the gifts they are presented with for their baby girl – who is due this summer.

The couple are purportedly considering a home birth in their Montecito mansion for their daughter.

Access Hollywood reported that the Duchess intended to deliver Archie at home but was urged to go to hospital for safety reasons.

The report read: “The former Suits star originally wanted to do a home birth with baby Archie, but when she was overdue she went to Portland Hospital in London to give birth.

“Meghan’s plan was to have a home birth with Archie but you know what they say about the best-laid plans.

“In the end, her doctors advised her to go to hospital and all she was interested in was about delivering Archie safely.

“But it is a tragedy that this has apparently been a matter of so much concern over the way this has been handled.

“Regarding any future title, they have stepped down as working royals. It is unlikely, I would have thought they wouldn’t want one.

“We don’t know what future we want for Archie so this will no doubt be one of the many issues the Queen will want to discuss with them.”
