In his first public appearance since Prince Philip’s funeral, the Queen’s grandson left pregnant Meghan at home to attend the “Concert to Reunite the World”, a charity performance featuring J. Lo, Selena Gomez and Ben Affleck. Harry, 36, praised frontline medical workers across the globe who have battled the Covid crisis for the past year and received a standing ovation at the event in Los Angeles.

Last month it was announced that Harry and Meghan, 39, are campaign chairs for the event.

Footage posted online showed fans screaming, jumping and clapping as Harry entered the stage.

Gregory Ellwood of The Playlist tweeted: “Audience went CRAZY for new Cali resident Prince Harry.”

Royal watchers took to social media to welcome the development, more than a year after the Sussexes moved to Meghan’s home state.

One said: “How great is this that USA is welcoming Prince Harry this way!”

A second wrote: “As they should! Prince Harry is a class act!”

And yet a third wrote “we love Harry” with heart emojis.

Others included the hashtag #ServiceIsUniversal, a nod to Harry and Meghan’s comment after the Queen stripped them of their honorary charity titles.

Speaking to an animated crowd of only fully vaccinated guests, Harry pleaded for vaccines to be “distributed to everyone everywhere”, while also saluting frontline medical workers both at the concert and around the world.

He said: “Tonight is a celebration of each of you here, the vaccinated frontline workers in the audience and the millions of frontline heroes around the world.

“You spent the last year battling courageously and selflessly to protect us all. You served and sacrificed, put yourselves in harm’s way, and acted with bravery, knowing the costs. We owe you an incredible debt of gratitude. Thank you.”
